POS Software Price in Pakistan: What You Pay For

What decides POS software price in Pakistan: licence or monthly fee, counters, setup, data import, hardware, updates and support. Questions to ask first.

"Kitne ka hai?" is the first thing every shopkeeper asks about POS software, and it's a fair question. The trouble is that two quotes with the same number can mean very different things. One includes setup and a year of updates. The other is just the licence, and everything after that is extra. Here's how to read a quote properly.

One-time licence or monthly fee

Some POS and ERP software is sold once, with a yearly fee for updates. Some is a monthly subscription. Monthly feels cheaper at the start, but add it up over three years before you decide. Ask what happens to your data if you stop paying.

Number of counters and users

Price usually goes up with counters, branches or logins. A single-counter kiryana store and a wholesaler with three cashiers and a godown shouldn't pay the same. Tell the seller exactly how you work so the quote fits.

Setup and data import

Someone has to install the software, enter or import your items, set opening stock and load your credit customers' balances. Ask whether that's in the price or billed separately. A badly imported item list costs you more in mistakes than the setup fee ever will.

Hardware

Barcode scanner, thermal receipt printer, cash drawer, maybe a label printer. Most shops already have a computer. Check that the software works with what you own before you buy new machines.

Updates and support

This is where cheap quotes get expensive. Ask how long updates are included, what they cost after that, and how you reach support. A phone number that nobody answers isn't support.

Get it all on one page

Before paying, ask for one written quote that lists the licence, setup, updates, support and anything else you'll be charged. If it isn't written down, assume it's extra.
