Every shop has that corner. Boxes nobody's touched in a year, a brand that never sold, sizes customers stopped asking for. That's dead stock, and it's your money sitting on a shelf collecting dust. At Star Electric we had the same problem, and clearing it started with simply knowing what was there.
Why dead stock builds up
It usually starts at purchase time. A supplier offers a scheme, you buy extra, and nobody tracks how fast it actually sells. With a paper register you only find out at the yearly count, and by then the item is out of fashion or the price has dropped.
Find it first
You can't clear what you can't see. Once every sale updates stock automatically, it becomes easy to list items with stock but no sales in the last 60 or 90 days. In Devsio ERP, inventory health and stock audits show you what's moving and what's just sitting there.
Put a rupee value on it
Multiply the quantity by the cost price for every slow item. Seeing "PKR 3 lakh stuck in old stock" written down changes how you buy next month far more than a vague feeling that the godown is full.
Clear it
Bundle slow items with fast sellers. Ask the supplier about returns or exchange. Run a clearance price for regular customers. At Star Electric we gave staff a small incentive for every dead-stock item they sold, and it moved goods that had sat for months.
Stop it coming back
Before every big order, check the last three months of sales for that item. Low-stock alerts tell you what to reorder, and sales reports tell you what not to. Buy for how the item actually sells, not for how good the scheme sounds.
